Tell Your Story – California during the time of COVID-19

Tell Your Story - Xiomara, Marina
This was taken when my mom, sister, and I decided to go for a drive in Carmel, and I saw this beautiful view so I took a picture of it. Carmel, March 24, 2020

“This affects my family because my mom lost her job temporarily and my [little] sister eats nonstop all day because we have nothing to do. Right now I would be at school and my sister would be in her daycare. My dad lost his nighttime job temporarily due to the pandemic, so for now he only works in his morning job. He’s working hard trying to sustain us, but we can only earn so much. At the end of the week, all that money he has earned goes to food and water. I can’t go to my grandma’s house, or my friend’s house. I can just stay at home, which is boring and at times it could be really frustrating but I find a way to manage all of it.

“But of course, nothing lasts forever, so as more time passes, people will think that it’s just a normal day and we will all just forget that any of this ever happened.”

Xiomara, 13
