Coming soon: The archive of the California Flower Market

We’re excited to report on a project underway at CHS to process, digitize, and provide access to the archive of the California Flower Market. The California Flower Market in San Francisco was founded by Japanese immigrant flower growers at the turn of the 20th century and forms one branch of the iconic San Francisco Flower Mart at 6th and Brannan. The archive consists of business records, audiovisual material, and numerous photographs and photo albums documenting the history of the flower market and Japanese American flower-growing families dating back to 1910.

We are grateful to the California Flower Market for funding the work to process and digitize this incredible collection. Stay tuned for updates!
